Software as a Service Revenue Metrics
This Information Product Canvas provides an example of a Revenue Metrics information product for an organisation in the Software as a Service industry.
Patterns
Comprehensive Core Business Events
Identified key business events, from prospect signup to plan upgrade, ensuring all necessary data is identified. Augmented with Systems of Capture.
Persona Specific Feature Stories
Focuses on specific persona needs, such as the ability to drill into summary numbers to see outliers.
Scoped Will / Won’t List
Clearly defines what is included and excluded in the metric calculations and the customer segmentation logic.
Vision Statement
The Vision Statement is a concise and focused articulation of the Information Product’s purpose. It clearly defines the target audience, the specific problem to address, and the value delivered.
Emulate
Define Core Business Events by collaborating with stakeholders to identify processes generating the required data. Align these with business systems to reduces uncertainty for the data team.
When writing Feature Stories, focus on what stakeholders need to achieve, not implementation details.
Use the Will / Won’t List to set clear delivery boundaries. Defining exclusions is more valuable than defining inclusions to assist with managing expectations. Its ok to have both a Will and a Won’t for the same thing to ensure clarity.
Craft a Vision Statement that clearly defines who the Information Product is for, the value it delivers and what problem it addresses. Succinct Vision statements create shared understanding.
Information Product Canvas examples
The pattern of learning by example is a great way to transfer knowledge and reinforce understanding.
Every canvas tells a story; it is a snapshot of a context, a reflection of strategic decisions, and an artefact of learning and adaptation.
While no two canvases will ever be identical, you’ll find common threads and patterns woven throughout, providing valuable insights for your own use of the pattern template.
To protect confidentiality, the examples have been adapted and anonymised to preserve each organisation’s competitive advantage while retaining the core essence of their original context.
For some Canvas examples collaborators were happy to be recognised. For both the named and anonymous contributors I am eternally grateful!
